"...but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. ...for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." -Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6, 10 King Solomon was teaching what are observable facts: the human memory system and the man himself did not function rationally consciouis if man is dead. But of course anti-Bible preachers & mystics deny this fact and tend to believe on unknown mystery.
When man died his memory system, emotional condition (love, hate, envy), and thoughts or mental activities have biologically perished, too. Also, his soul dies, and while his physical body returns into the dust, and his breath of life goes back to its Giver. The reason for this factual biological phenomenon is that the entire composition of man: his wisdom, mind, memory system, love, hate, envy, physical body, soul, and breath of life (respiration, spirit) are all absolutely made up of the dust's tiniest particles (i.e., photons), since man is created by the earth's dust. Whether we accept it or not, it is a fact that man is absolutely made up of dust's tiniest particles. In fact, living man continuously emits light rays (quanta of photons). This is why living brain generates mind, and mind controls some molecules of the brain (neurons). This psychokinetic influence of the mind is factually & directly true for its generator (that is, neurons of the brain). It is a fact that mind can control some brain's molecules as those molecules may control the mind.

Emotions are biologically done by different bio-molecules & biological processes, but its main contents are the neuropeptides responding to & from neurons and other cells. Hearth & reins (kidneys & adrenal glands) are responding to the brain to have physical activities of emotion and in the biblical times they were called "mind". Sometimes, digestive system was called "mercy" in the biblical times, scientifically because stomach excretes neuropeptides.
Man (which is composed of body, soul, and spirit) is dust and unto dust will return. His physical body, soul, and wisdom die as he dies and this is in accordance with the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, which can be stated:
"...the heavens are the work of thy hands. They will perish,...they will all wear out like a garment. Thou changest them like raiment; and they pass away;..." Psalms 102:25,26 (Revised Standard Version)
